I am sure many of you have seen some of the upcoming spring 2008 collections. Apart from returning guests like pink and beige, it seems that cool tones will be stealing the show.

Two major makeup trends for spring 2008:

– blue eye colors
– lilac eye colors

First, blue. Chanel‘s spring 2008 makeup collection, Aurora Blues Accent, is now out in the US, and blue takes center stage.

The new Chanel eyeshadow palette, Les 4 Ombres in Blue Cèlestes, includes a dark cold blue and a pastel blue. It also features grey, which is carried over from the makeup trend from fall 2007. The collection has a distinctive look, but I personally feel that it lacks a bit of warmth.

Givenchy‘s new denim-themed spring 2008 collection, Denim Fétiche, is also blue-oriented, right from the packaging to the shades.

Compared with Chanel’s collection, there seems to be a little more balance between cooler and warmer shades, which should make these palettes wearable for more people.

Coincidentally, the MAC for A-Mei collection, out in January 2008, includes a brighter, bolder, and slightly warmer blue. I have to say this is the kind of blue that I enjoy playing with more.

The warm and cool palettes are also put together to complement each other to create more possibilities.

Let’s move on to purple. I have always loved soft purple shades like lilac/lavender as well as darker purples like violet. Since this fall, we have seen rich bright purples in fashion, especially in accessories. Mulberry‘s Bayswater patent leather bag in purple is just one example of a hot fashion trend in fall 2007.

Dior’s spring 2008 collection is very pretty in pink. It has a great mixture of warm and cool pinks, with mauves and lilacs as wonderful accent colors.

The 5-Color Eyeshadow Palettes in 470 Spring Bouquet and 909 Pink May both look beautiful and feminine. Pink May (the lower of the two palettes in the photo above) seems to be a great assembly of pink, peach, soft lilac, and purple. This certainly carries more of a spring atmosphere than Chanel’s Blue Cèlestes palette.

Apart from blue, Givenchy‘s spring 2008 collection also incorporates elements of purple. I will be interested in seeing the actual color and finish of the blusher (pictured in the middle).

One of YSL‘s two new Ombre Duo Lumière palettes also features a plum-purple:

There are also collections and individual items that put blue and purple together to create a pleasing mix. Among them, Chanel’s 4 Fleurs de Chanel includes pale pink, blue, and lilac.

Anna Sui‘s latest eyeshadow addition, Glitter Eye Color Stick, features bright blue and purple. The two colors also jump out from the limited-edition items, Sui Lip Gloss and Eye Color Accent J palettes.

Guerlain‘s new array of 4-color eyeshadow palettes for spring 2008 includes a soft and sensual lilac palette and a cool blue palette. The blue one seems similar to the Chanel Blue Cèlestes in terms of the color combination.

Clé de Peau‘s upcoming eyeshadow palette has a warm aqua blue and a stunning violet. A winning combination for me.

Finally, Lunasol‘s Sheer Contrast Eyes palettes include 03 Blue Coral and 02 Lavender Coral, two vibrant palettes with warm blues and very pretty purples. Lavender Coral looks particularly alluring to me.

It is worth mentioning that Lunasol’s existing eyeshadow palette ranges are doing extremely well this year. Skin Modeling Eyes (released spring 2007), Geminate Eyes (fall 2007), and Scent Form Eyes (fall 2006) occupy the top three positions in the eyeshadow category of @Cosme’ Best Cosmetics Award. I think the Sheer Contrast Eyes range, with the selection of both wearable and on-trend colors, is very likely to continue the immense popularity of Lunasol’s eyeshadows and Lunasol the brand itself.

I am personally very pleased to see more lilacs at makeup counters, as it is a very wearable color for me. As for blues, I am more excited about the warmer ones that seem to appear more from Japanese brands like Clé de Peau and Lunasol that we’ve just seen above.

I am probably going to pick up some (more) lilac eyeshadow palettes, and I will be reviewing them later on!

What about you? Are you happy with these spring 2008 makeup trends?

Hi PJ-

Merry Christmas Eve?!

I loved looking at these photos! The Chanel Quad looks lovely to me – and the pale gloss pictured as I do like pure cool colours, although I find the textures of Chanel Quads to be so-so.

Do you know if the Chanel range is permananet?

The teal Guerlain quad is also a must have for me – its GORGEOUS!

And Lunasol’s Blue or Green Coral look interesting – most of my Lunsol quads are fairly neutral so that would make a nice change.

You know I nearly bought that Bayswater Bag but instead I went for the Bronze (limited edition) colour – the purple I can live with but Patent as well it was a bit too unclassic for a £500 bag! I wouldn’t be surprised if the patent purple one is reduced in the sales. :)

Thanks for sharing all the new collections coming out for Spring!

I really love blues and purples and always generally wear them anyway. I’m glad to have a chance to update some of my colors this season! Especially the lilacs. I normally do darker plums but I think I’ll try some lavenders to lighten it up a bit for the season :)

Thanks again!

I very much like Chanel’s light blue nail polish as well as the dark blue shade. Something tells me that either of these will be the IT colour everyone will be after again.

I’m still deciding on Dior’s new key item though I might be tempted with Chanel’s other palette. However, between the two, I feel it will be easier to use Dior’s without damaging the flower pattern.

With Anna Sui, there’s been a bit of a takeover up here as I’ve seen Dior counters move out of Sears with Anna Sui taking its place. I’m afraid my Japanese isn’t very good, so which of the shades are limited editions for that collection?

Thanks for the overview!

Hello Row,

Happy Christmas to you too!

I think the texture of the Chanel Irréelle eyeshadow duos is quite good, but I can see why some people don’t like the palettes with the baked eyeshadows. Most of the shades are very sheer and don’t have enough pigment. But some of the shades have nice shimmer. I think most of those palettes are slightly better suited for a daytime look.

Obviously, the 4 Fleurs de Chanel palette is probably a limited edition. I am guessing most of the other items are permanent…

The Lunasol Blue Coral palette is my second favorite, after Lavender Coral. But I have noticed that most of Lunasol’s best-selling palettes are neutral ones. So I am sure many people have opted for Lunasol’s neutral tones just like you have.

I think you are very sensible to have gone for the timeless Bronze look for the Mulberry Bayswater. It is definitely much more of a timeless piece.

Will the purple one be reduced during the sale? We shall see very soon!

Thank you for sending your comment again! :)

Hello Nilla Cookie,

I am glad you enjoy wearing blues and purples too!

I am particularly happy to see some nice lilacs for spring 2008. I am definitely going to pick up more lilacs to increase the size of my lilac collection.

Thank you for your comment again, and happy Christmas!

Hello Ebontien,

I am surprised to hear that Anna Sui seems to be expanding in Canada. In the UK, it disappeared completely about 4 years ago. (I certainly hope it will come back!)

I think cool dark blue and light blue are very likely indeed to be the IT colors for spring 2008.

I have not seen either Chanel’s 4 Fleur de Chanel or Dior’s Flower Blossom, but I think both should stand some using without losing the patterns. But I look forward to seeing the Dior palette in person to know exactly how deep the patterns are.

As for the Anna Sui spring 2008 collection, the limited-edition items are the three Eye Color Accent J palettes, the three Sui Lip Gloss (100, 401, 800), and the five nail colors. The rest of the collection (at least in Japan) should be permanent (the Glitter Eye Color Sticks, the eyeliners, and the makeup mirror). Hope this helps.

Thank you for leaving your comment again, and happy Christmas to you!

I would say that out of all the Spring collection, Guerlian is my definite favourite and i certainly would be going to pick it up. I’m also loving the Chanel blue nail polish as it’s a sparkly nice dark alternative to black. But i don’t think i’ll be wearing any of the blue eyeshadows as they’d clash with my skin. Except i wear the bluw over a black eyeshadow making it a smoky blue-black…now that’ll be very wearable and saxy.

Hello Allysia-May,

Wearing blue with black for a smoky-eye effect is a great way to wear blue as well. Quite sassy-looking I should imagine.

Guerlain’s spring 2008 collection is certainly very eye-catching. I look forward to checking out the shades later on. I think Chanel’s dark-blue nail color might sell well as well.
