Japanese Cosmetics News in Brief

by PJ on Wednesday, March 5, 2008

in -Anna Sui, -Jill Stuart, -Shiseido, 2008 Spring, all about Japanese cosmetics, haircare

— For those following Jill Stuart’s Launch in Taiwan, see the initial price list of some of the items. As predicted, the retail prices in Taiwan are cheaper than those (including sale tax) in Japan. Most items are about 7% cheaper.

— Have a look at a large photo of Anna Sui’s new Oil Control Paper case on a Japanese blog. Check out the details and the enclosed mirror.

Uno is Shiseido’s well-known male haircare/skincare drugstore line. Recently, Orlando Bloom has been their spokesperson and you can see some of the TV commercials on Uno’s website. Here is the latest mini-movie version:

I know it is a little predictable…but I don’t mind. It’s Orlando Bloom.

(The actress in the commercial, Kuriyama Chiaki, is one of the four brand ambassadors for Shiseido Maquillage.)

You can see another extended TV commercial posted by The Punk Cat.

Hi PJ, you mentioned that Jill Stuart is cheaper in Taiwan than in Japan.

Do you know in general, issit cheaper to get Japanese cosmetics (eg. Lavshuca, MM, Sofina, Shiseido, Kanebo etc etc) in Taiwan or Hong Kong as compared to Japan??

Hi The Muse,

Sorry to have interrupted your work, but I was sure you would enjoy it! :)

I like both commercials, but I do watch the spy ones just to listen to the music…

I don’t usually post commercials…but I thought I’d have a little bit of Orlando on A Touch of Blusher…

Thank you for commenting! :)

Hi Sesame,

Orlando does look good in the commercial, and I like the ending tune as well, which is why I also like the one posted by The Punk Cat.

Thank you for visiting my blog again! Keep up the great work with your blog! :)

Aww.. That was such a romantic video especially it took place in Prague! N that was Charles Uni, I was there for 2 months last yr n this reminds me of the beauty of that city. And I love Orlando, he has such a sweet face!

Thanks again for bringing this up :)

PJ, I love it that you update so frequently! The Chanel lilac shadow looks so pretty! It would be nice if you have a sequel after the lilting lilac.

lol, that Orlando Bloom CM was so random (the spy one), the artist one was cute…although I still don’t get the point of the story ( At first I thought UNO makes the girl came back to him…but then wasn’t he using it *all* the time ?)

I was thinking about the blotting paper case too. If I do ended up buying that, it would be one of the least practical Anna Sui item I own so far since it’s a bit to much to carrying a 30$ case for a $5 blotting paper ( I use some other random Japanese brand, seriously $10 for 50 pieces of blotting paper is a killer price)

The loosed powder case is cute but I wouldn’t get that since I just got a white protective foundation case that looks a lot like the loose powder UV case, the one with a white rose in the center. (It has silvery sheen all over it instead of the pinkish lavender tone on the brightening one).

I guess I might post the Anna Sui mega-review next week over spring break, I started typing the review last weekend on word2007 using the typical Times New Roman and 12 font…guess what, it’s already 5.5 pages not including the pictures…I probably need to break it into 2 or 3 parts and/or stop blabbing as much.

Hi Kng Suan,

I think, in most cases, the Japanese cosmetics items sold in Taiwan and Hong Kong are a little bit cheaper than in Japan. But they are not too much cheaper. I’d say generally it is about 5-7% cheaper. So it is a little like buying them tax-free. (I think it is still the case that tourists in Japan have to pay the 5% sales tax on cosmetics and can’t get the amount refunded.)

Thank you for your question again! :)

Hi $wEeT T!raMi$u,

Thank you so much indeed for telling me the location of the commercial shoot! :) I have never visited Prague, but I have always thought it is so beautiful.

Orlando is not too bad either! :)

Thank you for stopping by my blog again! :)

Hi Wieniawski,

It was supposed to be a secret, but, yes, I have already been planning the return of the Lilting Lilac. I haven’t set the date yet, but it will probably be a couple of months later…:)

As for the CM, I am sure we can all have our own interpretations…:)

I think I might get the loose powder compact. I don’t have the round white one that you mentioned, so I have been thinking about buying this one…

I look forward to your Anna Sui reviews. I can understand that you must have a lot to say about things you are passionate about. But do break them to small parts so they are perhaps much easier to follow. :)

Thank you for stopping by again!

Hi PJ,

You’re right. The last time I was in Japan, cosmetics are not eligible for tax refund. Thanks for the input!
