6th: Clinique

I did surprise myself initially by liking this collection. But as the Color Surge Trios have been looking lovely for the past few weeks, I’ve decided to include Clinique‘s spring 2008 collection in my top ten.

Spring 2008 Makeup Catalog, p. 14)

With brands like Chanel and Givenchy featuring dark and ashy blues for spring, which don’t really appeal to me, Clinique’s soft and cheerful pastels are unexpectedly welcoming. The color combinations are straightforward and wearable, and the lilac and pink look especially dreamy. As someone who doesn’t wear green very much, I actually find the green palette very tempting too.

5th: Eprise

Eprise‘ spring 2008 collection is not hugely extensive but still includes items for eyes, cheeks, lips, and nails. Most of the shades have a gentle and girlie feel. Like Clinique, Eprise’ Creamy Eye Colors also feature pastel blue, green, and lilac.

What instantly attracted my attention upon seeing this collection was the Water Face Color, which is a range of liquid blushers. I picked up the shade in 100, a very natural pink. Easy to use and long-lasting, it is definitely a great makeup purchase for this season.

4th: EST

(image from www.kao.co.jp/est)

The EST debut color makeup collection was launched on November 24th, 2007. But Biteki’s spring 2008 makeup catalog (March 2008 issue) includes this collection, so I am counting it as a spring 2008 release.

As should a debut color collection, it includes all the basics. I think the highlights of the collection are the Emotional Aura Eyes (above) and Emotional Aura Pack (featured in the ad image above), which is a selection of highlighters for different parts of the eye area. (Please see my brand profile on EST for more on this item.)

Overall, this is a triumphant debut collection with a very feminine and sophisticated feel. I look forward to seeing how this color makeup line evolves.

Do come back for Part 3!

PJ,

The clinique does look very nice! I’m normally not one for clinique but these are very soft and spring like!

Also about the Shiseido Collection from her prior conversation, the eyeshadow stink. Too matte for me :( and not nearly as lovely as the colors in the regular line up!

Hello PJ,
I agree about the dark and ashy blues, not my sort of thing either. I think Chanel may have made a mistake there, though I have to confess I bought the Luna powder and the nail polishes in the blues. They were a birthday treat along with the spotlight palette you recommended. Thanks again so much for your accurate reviews. I am so thrilled with the spotlights purchase. I was thinking that maybe the cosmetics companies should pay you commission for all the great reviews or at least send you a goodie bag each season – wouldn’t that be great!

Like you I seldom buy Clinique but yes, the pastels look really lovely.
I wish the EST Emotional Aura Eyes palettes were available over here. They are really pretty too. Am I right in thinking you posted an advert of them somewhere. A few weeks ago I remember watching a lovely Japanese ad of a model having lilacs applied and can’t remember which of your pages it is on. I wanted to view it again and show my friend.
I was a very brave girl today and ordered a copy of Biteki magazine from the Japanese centre. I nearly fell over when I heard about the postage though lol! I managed to get the April issue. Sadly the March has sold out. It should be fun for me especially as I don’t read Japanese. I have been thinking of taking some lessons for a while and I guess the price of the magazine is a good incentive to start. Oh my word! £7.30 for one issue and £5.50 for postage, yikes! I am sure it is better for my health than an Easter Egg though and more interesting than Vogue which does not have enough make-up and beauty.
Take Care and have a great weekend. Hugs Chloe x

Hi The Muse,

Thank you for letting me know what you think about the Shiseido The Makeup Hydro-Powder Eye Shadows. I appreciate that! :)

The Color Surge Eyeshadow Trios do look really spring-like. So far they are not out in the UK yet (while the rest of the collection has been out for a while). I do look forward to seeing and testing out the shades.

Thank you for leaving your comment again! :)

Hi Chloe,

It sounds that you have got some nice goodies from Chanel apart from the Stage Lights palette you told me about earlier! :)

I think Chanel released a rather unconventional collection for spring 2008. Many people think it looks more like a fall/winter collection rather than a spring collection. I think I agree with that. But I do like the two nail polishes. The light-blue one is especially pretty. The Luna powder seems like a good highlighting powder as well.

I am really glad that you are happy with Stage Lights as well! The colors look good both in the case and on the eyes.

As for the post you are looking for, I posted a TV ad for Biteki where the model is wearing lilac and green eyeshadows. I presume this is what you have been looking for. Hope your friend will enjoy it too.

The price for the Biteki magazine itself sounds about right. The postage is indeed expensive though. If you do decide to try any short-term subscription, you might be able to save the postage.

I do hope you will enjoy flipping through Biteki. It is quite picture-heavy, and I hope you will enjoy the product images and all the makeup looks!

By the way, you might find the June/September/December issues worth getting, as they should have the features on summer/fall/holiday makeup lineups. (They have been doing them in the past few years.) You can probably try calling the Japan Centre in April/July/October to pre-order them if you would like to.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts again, and have a great Easter weekend! :)

Hi PJ!
Happy new year, I wish you a happy, healthy and successful 2009.

My friend recently bought me the Camellia version of the all over Clinique colour, which is in the pic you posted and it came with a lip gloss.

Absolutely gorgeous, the orange tones make it a beautiful blush and it is a warm colour set and I love it!

How is everything with you?

Hi Fi,

Happy New Year to you too! I hope your 2009 has started off well and that you will have a great rest of the year.

It is great that you are enjoying your presents from Clinique. The All Overall Colors are pretty and eye-catching. They certainly turned my head when I walked past them at the counter…:)

Thank you for your comment again! :)
