Hey, PJ! I’ve always loved your blog, but this is the very first time I’m commenting on it! (I sound a bit silly saying that I’m really exciting doing this!)

I love how you cover so many Japanese products and brands on here. Yours is the only blog in English I’ve ever found on the topic! :)

Because you have so much knowledge on these products, I was wondering if you could read Japanese? I can read basic Hiragana, Katakana, but no Kanji. Even though I can read a little, I don’t understand much…

I would love to get some of these products but the Japanese websites confuse me, and I do not like to buy things over the internet (I live in Hawaii so there is extra shipping costs…) so I was wondering about Shiseido because they sell it here.

Any products you think are worth buying? Once I had a magazine coupon for a free sample but the counter girl gave me a whole makeover! I waited to see how the products would last for the rest of the day, but it didn’t quite work because of all the humidity here. I felt bad because I feel embarassed going back to the counter… :(

Also, I am Japanese so I thought that the makeup base would be ok for my skin but my mother told me that when she used their foundation, she broke out when she was younger… Have you ever had any problems with that?

Sorry for the rant! :(

P.S. Keep on rocking your blog! ;D

Hi Chelsie,

Thank you very much for reading my blog and for posting your thoughts! :)

I read only a very little bit of Japanese. I read kanji and katakana, so I am able to get a very basic idea of the text when I read Japanese beauty magazines. I really want to learn Japanese properly so I can really have a full understanding of the text.

May I ask which Shiseido lines are available in Hawaii? I am asking this because I seem to have heard that there are more Shiseido lines sold in Hawaii than in the mainland US. Hopefully I can give you the right recommendations when I know what you can get there.

I have to say I don’t really think that all products from Japanese brands necessarily suit “Asian skin” better. Within any ethnic group, there is a great variety of skin types, and most products will always suit some and not others.

For me, I have quite oily skin, so nearly all liquid foundations will give me breakouts when I use them a few days in a row, whether they are from western brands or Japanese brands. (Even the very light ones don’t suit me, since many of them have alcohol and will irritate my skin.)

But what I would say though is that some of the best powder foundations that I have used are from Japanese brands. They tend to cover the pores better and they give the skin a very smooth appearance. (Again, this will benefit all people, not just Asian consumers.)

It is great that there appears to be more Japanese beauty products sold in Hawaii than here in the UK. Do take advantage of it! :)

Thank you again for sharing your thoughts! :)
