Another season, another pink collection from Jill Stuart. Not surprisingly, the new Blush Blossom, launched in fall 2010, has proven to be a popular product, and there is one new color variation this season. Lip Luster was re-packaged to become Lip Jewel, which looks even prettier.

9th: Elégance

.

Elégance’s spring 2011 makeup collection is so visually stunning. All the new color makeup items (Phantom Eyes, Fabulous Rouge and Aurora Storm) feature intricate lace-like motifs. They look too precious to use!

8th: Kate

.

Kanebo Kate’s spring 2011 makeup collection introduces a new eyeshadow palette range, Crystallize Quartz, which I am sure has grabbed the attention of many Kate fans. But the palette in this collection that I am the most interested in is Gradical Eyes A in PU-1, a new variation this season. (Please refer to the link above to see an image of the palette.)

.

7th: Sonia Rykiel

.

Sonia Rykiel’s spring 2011 makeup collection has a good combination of wearable colors from Quatre Eyeshadow Collection and more vivid shades from the limited-edition Eye Gloss. The collection also includes elegant hues for lips, face and nails.

The countdown continues in Part 2 and Part 3.

Hi PJ,

am so happy to have come across your blog as i have just started an ‘asian cosmetics’ obsessions… so far, i have tried the bb creams from missha, Dr G and clinique which had all caused me acne and a lot of havoc! i am thinking of trying kate’s powder foundation- have you or any out there tried it before? i have oily-combo skin, acne prone. are kate products allergy tested, non-comedogenic, un-scented? what has your experience been with their foundations- particularly powder? or any other recommendations? i really wanted to try ZA 2 way foundation but there is no way of sourcing it in australia….

keep up the good work!!!!

Hi LG,

Thank you very much for reading my blog, and I am pleased that you enjoy it! :)

I am afraid that I am not able to give you suggestions on Kate since I actually haven’t tried any product from Kate yet. But I would guess that Kate’s foundations are unscented. (Most Japanese makeup products are unscented, with exceptions from products from brands like Anna Sui, Jill Stuart and Magie Deco.)

I have not tried BB creams mainly because I don’t think they will suit me. I have oily-dry skin (oily but dry underneath) and many BB creams are too rich/emollient/occlusive for me. (I do need hydration but I don’t need a lot of occlusive emolliency.) If you have oily-combination skin, I personally wouldn’t recommend BB creams. (They generally work better for drier skin types.)

Powder-based foundations (specifically, semi-matt ones that are designed for oilier skin types) generally work well for me and I think they should probably work well for you too. (For you, after cleansing and toning and before applying a powder foundation, I would recommend using a lightweight daytime moisturizer with proper UVA/UVB protection. (UV rays can aggravate acne.) Don’t layer too many skincare products before a foundation, and stay away from heavy cream-based concealers. If you are worried about shine control, set the powder foundation with a matt pressed/loose powder.)

Have a look at the posts in the “My Skincare Essentials” and “My Makeup Favorites” lists in the right sidebar. I think some of the products might suit you as well.

If you can’t easily get hold of ZA, you can still try other relatively affordable Japanese lines such as Kate (as you mentioned), Lavshuca and Majolica Majorca. Have a look at my FAQ page if you would like more information on purchasing Japanese cosmetics on-line.

Hope it helps, and thank you very much for your questions! :)
