Olay Total Effects Moisturiser Serum Duo SPF 20 1

.

Launched in February this year, Olay‘s new Total Effects Moisturiser + Serum Duo SPF 20 is claimed to combine the hydrating properties of a moisturizer and the treatment efficacy of a serum. With added sun protection, this product aims to streamline the morning skincare routine.

Total Effects Moisturiser + Serum Duo SPF 20 (40ml, £16.99) has a rich creamy consistency. It takes a little bit of time to spread the product and to work it into the skin. Some of the main moisturizing ingredients in this product are glycerin, cetyl alcohol, and stearyl alcohol.

The product uses ethylhexyl salicylate, homosalate, and octocrylene as anti-UVB ingredients and butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane as the anti-UVA ingredient. (Octocrylene also helps stabilize butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane.) It offers sufficient full-spectrum sun protection for general daytime use.

The product contains antioxidants such as tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E), sodium ascorbyl phosphate (vitamin C), and camellia sinensis (green tea) leaf extract.

It contains allantoin as an anti-irritant. Sodium ascorbyl phosphate (vitamin C) and camellia sinensis (green tea) leaf extract also function as anti-irritants.

The product contains niacinamide (vitamin B3), which is a cell-communicating ingredient. See a note on this skin-benefiting ingredient in my review of Olay Regenerist 3-Point Treatment Cream Fragrance Free.

The product is alcohol-free. It contains benzyl alcohol, which in itself can be irritating, but it is in the second half of the ingredient list and it is unlikely to cause irritation.

Overall, this is another well-formulated daytime moisturizer from Olay and it should suit those with dry or very dry skin. For those with oilier skin types, I recommend Olay Complete Care Sensitive Day Fluid SPF 15 (my current daytime moisturizer).
