RMK Smooth Cleansing Oil Spring Summer 2016 Skincare 1

.

In 2016, RMK renewed parts of its cleanser lineup and released Clear Cleansing Milk, Smooth Cleansing Oil and Moist Cleansing Balm. I have been a regular user of the brand’s cleansing oil for more than fifteen years, and today I will be sharing my thoughts on Smooth Cleansing Oil.

RMK Smooth Cleansing Oil (RMK スムース クレンジングオイル/ RMK 潔膚油 (Smooth), 175ml, ¥3400 in Japan, £31 in the UK) was released in Japan in April 2016. It is the fourth version of the brand’s cleansing oil. (It follows Cleansing Oil (released in Japan in March 2000), Cleansing Oil N (released in Japan in May 2006) and Cleansing Oil S (released in Japan in April 2011).)

The product contains squalane and caprylic/capric triglyceride (the first two ingredients on the list), which are emollients and presumably help dissolve makeup. It also contains olive fruit oil, soybean oil, orange peel oil, sunflower seed oil and jojoba seed oil.

It does not contain mineral oil, alcohol or parabens. It contains fragrance (parfum) and other scenting agents.

I don’t feel that there are very noticeable differences between Cleansing Oil S and Smooth Cleansing Oil. Their consistencies, the ways they emulsify and their scents are all very similar. Like Cleansing Oil S, Smooth Cleansing Oil spreads easily on the skin, dissolves makeup effectively, emulsifies very efficiently, and leaves almost no oily residue on the skin.

Overall, Smooth Cleansing Oil works well for me. However, I slightly prefer Cleansing Oil N (which I mentioned in my review of Cleansing Oil S). It dissolves excess sebum very slightly more effectively, and it does not contain orange peel oil or any other fragrant plant oil. (Orange peel oil can be a skin irritant for some people. It does not irritate my skin, but, without it, the product would be generally more skin-friendly.)
