The YSL Holiday 2007 Collection presents itself in chic silvery packaging.

But I still prefer the gold packaging that YSL does so well, as the title of my personal take on YSL has noted. Not that I don’t love these items…every year I anxiously wait for the first glimpse of the YSL holiday collection, which always has the most gorgeous items around. But, after the initial seconds of sudden blood-rush upon seeing these photos, I quickly calmed down (and didn’t reach for my shopping list).

I know I am being very picky here (for my bank balance’s sake)…they look glamorous but I am not overly excited by the shades or the packaging. In a way that’s a good thing…since the final quarter of the year is always the time when I spend the most money and I already have some makeup purchases lined up.

I still look forward to seeing all these in person, but it is unlikely that I will take them home with me…

I don’t know – personally I’m quite fond of silver, and the palette in the top photo looks very cute. Love the hearts!

Hello Anita,

Interestingly, for jewelry, I much prefer silver to gold! Silver looks much better against my skin-tone.

But, for cosmetics packaging in general and especially for YSL, I have always loved gold tones. I don’t think I have any YSL item that is not packaged in gold. So I guess it is strictly a personal preference here…:)

Also, I think it is a matter of comparison. I adore the Gold Celebration palette from last year and, for me, it looks better than the one this year. So, even though it is still really pretty, I guess I am quite okay not buying this…

Thank you for the comment!

If you do get one of these items (don’t get me wrong…they *are* very lovely!:)…), do drop me a line again. I’d love to hear what you think!

Hello Melissa,

Thank you for stopping by again!

I see what you mean. I do tend to like things that come in or with a charm as well…

Also, I am definitely someone that likes palettes! (I do have quite a few…)

I totally appreciate your honesty. It’s not like we can all buy EVERYTHING, so it’s good to see a little discretion in your buying. Thanks for putting up the photos, though, they’re cute, although I don’t ever buy things JUST for the packaging.

Hello Julie,

Thank you very much for leaving a comment and for your kind words.

I try to be as honest as I can be. I hope it does come across alright. :)

This year, I have set up a strict budget for my skincare and makeup purchases. So far I have been staying well under the budget actually, which I am very happy about. But, as I mentioned in my post, I have got some purchases lined up for the rest of the year, so I have to be more choosy than usual to make sure I don’t over-spend by the end of the year.

Indeed, these items are cute, but I guess it is just that they haven’t quite “made the cut” for me…:)

I love YSL Palettes, and have been an avid collector of their palettes.. I love that they changed them from gold to silver, it’s a nice change, and I love the hearts. I think I’m going to have to give in to this collection as well!!!!!
I love it!! It’s gorgeous

Hello Ixlovexmac,

Thank you for your comment again!

I suspect that keeping it fresh is the reason for the change. They have been doing gold for many years for their holiday collections so I am sure the silver look will be a welcome change for many!

I was so looking foreward to the xmas goodies and was a tad dissapointed. I bought the eyeshadow quad and silver nailpolish but really didnt want anything to do with the palate. What an anti-climax!!

Hello there,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

I think I am with you on this. I have seen the collection, and nothing has made it to my shopping list.

They are all very nice items nonetheless, but there are some others from other brands that are more appealing to me at the moment!

Thank you again for stopping by! :)
