On September 1st, Coffret D’Or will release its fall 2008 base makeup collection in Japan. The lineup includes:

Beauty Essence Pact (7 shades, SPF 23 PA++)
Gel Foundation (7 shades, SPF 17 PA++)
Beauty Essence Veil (primer)
Makeup Pressed Powder (1 shade)
Blend Color Blush (3 shades)

(Like the case for the powder foundation, the case and the puff for Makeup Pressed Powder and the case for Blend Color Blush (the same as the one for the pressed powder) are sold separately.)

So far I have been enjoying the two spring/summer base makeup items I tried (Beauty Lasting Pact UV and Makeup Powder, which I will review later this month). Among the new lineup, I am interested in the pressed powder and the blusher. I haven’t tried any new blusher from a Japanese brand for a while, and I am looking forward to seeing the other two shades. Hopefully these blushers are softly matte and not too shimmery for me.

Hi PJ
I got my Coffret D’Or Fall foundation through the post, and the photos do not do the case justice! It is actually very pretty :) I’m very glad I got the case as well.
Hope your week is going well.

Hi Fi,

Thank you for letting me know about this!

I hope you will like the fall release. Do let me know what you think and how you compare the spring and the fall editions.

Thank you for your comment again, and hope your week is going well too! :)

Hi PJ

Comparing the two, the spring foundation is much drier and so looks a bit chalky upon application. After a day at work, still very little shine. The fall one looks great when first applied, but at the end of the day, my face will look shiny.

When looking at photos, the spring version is much more sheer, whilst the fall version, as it is thicker, gives better coverage but the colour is much more pink toned, so I might have to try out the beige as opposed to the ochre shade. What do you think of the differences in shades? I have only bought the ochre ones so far.

They are definitely fantastic foundations, and the Coffret D’or powdery pacts are the best I’ve used, so thank you again for your reviews and introducing me to them!! I really appreciate it!

Hi Fi,

Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts!

First of all, if you think the ochre shades in a certain foundation range tend to be too pink for you, do give beige-ochre shades a try. They should be more yellow-toned and might suit you better.

The difference that you talked about between the two foundations makes perfect sense and it seems to be the general difference between a brand’s spring and fall foundation releases (although the tone difference might not be the case with foundations from other brands).

I tend to go for spring releases all year round because my skin can get oily regardless of the season. They can look a little chalky when they are first applied but they start to look natural in a very short amount of time. Fall releases do go on quite smooth and velvety at first but my face will look shiny very soon.

Judging by what you said, I do think the spring release will probably work much better for me.

I am glad that you are enjoying using both foundations, and thank you very much again for posting your comment! :)

Hi PJ

Thanks for your reply, I really appreciate it that you reply to your posts :) It makes your blog even better as it has such a great personal touch.

I think I might get the palest beige one in the summer version, as it will mean less shine. I was wondering whether using the summer one in winter as well would mean my face would be too used to it and become even shinier in humid conditions. However, as you mention you use the spring one all year, then it makes me feel it is ok.

It’s just scary how the pound has weakened that the yen exchange rate is so much worse than when I visited Tokyo this summer! I can only hope that the rate will be better for me when I plan to go next summer!

Hi Fi,

Thank you so much for your compliment. I think, for me, writing the posts is half of maintaining this blog. Receiving and replying to comments is the other half. I enjoy both equally! :)

I don’t think your face will be even shinier in warmer months here if you use a drier foundation in winter. For me, it is mostly about choosing the right formulation for our skin types and not all of us have to switch among different formulations in different seasons. Unless your skin behaves very differently in different seasons, one suitable foundation for your skin type should work fine for you.

I am certainly aware of how weak GBP is against some other currencies. It is a little scary and it is certainly not a good time to buy things from abroad. I have been thinking about going to Tokyo next year as well, and I really hope the rates will be a lot better for us later on!

Thank you for stopping by again! :)
