Kanebo Sensai Cellular Performance Hydrachange Mask 1

Kanebo’s Sensai line is one of the lines from the brand that have a more international presence. Today I am featuring two facial masks from the line’s Cellular Performance skincare range, Cellular Performance Hydrachange Mask and Cellular Performance Mask.

Cellular Performance Hydrachange Mask has a light-cream consistency and is the lighter one of the two. Some of the moisturizing ingredients in this product are hydrogenated polydecene, sorbital, dipropylene glycol, glycerin, octyldodecyl myristate, and butylene glycol.

Cellular Performance Mask has a thicker consistency. It includes moisturizing ingredients such as squalane, isocetyl myristate, dipropylene glycol, glyceryl stearate, stearic acid, beeswax, methylserine, glycerin, and butylene glycol.

Both products contain a relatively small amount of niacinamide, which is a great ingredient that can really benefit the skin. (See the entry on niacinamide in Paula Begoun’s Cosmetic Ingredient Dictionary.)  However, most of it is going to be washed off when the mask is rinsed off.

(Both my current daytime and night-time moisturizers, Olay Complete Care Daily Sensitive UV Fluid SPF 15 and Olay Complete Care Night Enriched Cream, have plenty of niacinamide.)

However, the application instructions of Cellular Performance Mask do mention that it can be used as an overnight leave-on mask. (In this case, apply the mask, massage it into the skin, and gently blot off the excess.) You are much more likely to benefit from niacinamide if you leave the mask on overnight.

Because of the occlusive ingredients in this product, I would rather not use it as an overnight mask on my face. (My facial skin can be quite oily.) But I have used it as an overnight mask for the neck (essentially as a neck cream) and it leaves the neck supple and moisturized.

Both products contain alcohol, but it is far from the top of the two ingredient lists and it is not likely to cause skin irritation for most people. (If you are going to use Cellular Performance Mask as an overnight mask, make sure your skin can tolerate a small amount of alcohol overnight.)

Overall, both products are able to provide a boost of moisture for the skin. I would recommend Cellular Performance Hydrachange Mask for those with normal or combination skin and Cellular Performance Mask for dry skin.
