Hadalabo Gokujyun Premium Emulsion Fall Winter 2016 Skincare 1

.

Last May, I reviewed Hadalabo‘s Gokujyun Premium Lotion in my Stash Debut series. Today I will be sharing my thoughts on the line’s Gokujyun Premium Emulsion. (The Gokujyun Premium range has recently been revamped. Please see more information towards the end of this post.)

Hadalabo Gokujyun Premium Emulsion (肌ラボ 極潤プレミアム ヒアルロン乳液/ 肌研 極潤金緻 高效保濕精華乳, 140ml, ¥900, refill ¥800) was released in Japan in August 2016. It has a lightweight creamy consistency (that is not too runny). It has a lot of slip and spreads easily on the skin. Once absorbed, it does not leave any oily residue on the skin.

Some of the moisturizing ingredients in this product are glycerin, dipropylene glycol, mineral oil, cetyl alcohol, triethylhexanoin, squalane (also with antioxidant properties), palmitic acid, butylene glycol and pentylene glycol.

According to the line, the product contains five forms of hyaluronic acid. They are listed on the ingredient list as sodium hyaluronate, sodium acetylated hyaluronate, hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid, hydroxypropyltrimonium hyaluronate and sodium hyaluronate crosspolymer. In general, hyaluronic acid is a moisturizing ingredient and it also functions as an antioxidant.

It contains arginine (with antioxidant properties) and allantoin (as an anti-irritant).

It does not contain alcohol, fragrance (parfum) or any other scenting agent. It contains methylparaben as one of the preservatives in it.

There is not any obvious skin irritant in this product. (Ingredients that I view as obvious skin irritants include alcohol (not fatty alcohols such as stearyl alcohol)) and fragrant plant oils. Currently, I do not view parabens as obvious skin irritants.)

With Gokujyun Premium Lotion being a very moisturizing toner for me and with mineral oil being fourth on the ingredient list of the Emulsion, I was expecting the Emulsion to be very emollient and on the occlusive side. However, it turns out to be sufficiently moisturizing (for my oily-dehydrated skin) without being too emollient and it doesn’t feel occlusive on my skin.

Overall, this is a well-formulated product. I think it is likely to appeal to those with skin types between normal-to-oily and normal-to-dry. It might not be sufficiently moisturizing for those with very dry skin.

The Gokujyun and Gokujyun Premium ranges were revamped in August 2020. (My Gokujyun Premium Emulsion was purchased before the renewal.) The new Gokujyun Premium Emulsion (pictured above, 140ml, ¥900, refill ¥800) has a different packaging design and features seven forms of hyaluronic acid.

(Some of the ingredient information is from Paula Begoun’s Ingredient Dictionary.)
