10 Golden Skincare Rules

by PJ on Wednesday, May 2, 2007

in skincare, What do you think? Beauty topics and thoughts

They are very straightforward, and, quite frankly, blatantly obvious. But are you doing all of them?

1. Wear sunscreen. Every day. All your life.

2. Sleep well (quality and quantity).

3. Eat well (balance and variety).

4. Exercise (intensity and regularity).

5. Don’t smoke.

6. Moisturize.

7. Take off your makeup as soon as you don’t need it on.

8. Learn to read the ingredient lists of skincare products.

9. Stay hydrated. (Don’t overdo alcohol, coffee, or tea.)

10. Control the stress. (Don’t let it control you.)

These all come from my own experiences. As you can see, there is nothing new here. No miracle product. No secret remedy. I always believe we don’t need to spend a lot of money to have great skin.

Also, you have probably noticed that many of them are not directly related to skincare. I think we all need to be constantly reminded that our lifestyle can affect our appearance as much as what we put on our skin.

Go through the list. What have you been doing already? What needs to be improved? Sometimes we get so obsessed with what to buy at drugstores that we forget that skincare is not just the matter of choosing the right cleanser or exfoliator……

Every little thing you do to improve your overall lifestyle, it will improve your wellbeing and you’ll look better!

These are all good tips. I’ve got another one – keep your hands off your face! Don’t pick at your pimples, and don’t touch your face throughout the day.

Thank you for stopping by and adding to the list.

I do admit that, sometimes when I am in front of the computer browsing the Internet, I have my hand holding up my chin. Need to get rid of this habit!

Great tips. All are common sense but we don’t really seem to take heed to all of them. Do check out my blog too if you have time.

Yeap…
…all true… though I don’t smoke nor drink, and Im used to look younger then my friends…
I had 2 very stressful years, being 2006 the most, together with traveling and jet lags! Add a very busy/disorganized life that didn’t gave me inspiration for gym, so my sleeping has gone worse, my dreams are driving me crazy and I always wake up stiffy and in pain.

All that… I can see in my face… in dark circles, open pores and late acne!

After returning from holidays, and not quite relaxed… Im looking forward to make some changes, going to printout ur 10+1 Golden Skincare Rules and frame it!

Other think a must warn, excessive exfoliation leads to excessive oil production and hyperpigmentation zones…

I only use sun block stick and stopped the extreme exfoliating habit.

Cheers

Hello Belaart,

Thank you very much for sharing your experiences and for adding to the list!

Our daily lifestyle and the level of stress that comes with it definitely have a tremendous impact on our skin. I think this is as crucial as the skincare products we use, if not more.

I agree with you on the excessive exfoliating, in the general sense and on a personal level. For me, I only exfoliate very occasionally (several times a year) and I avoid some particularly sensitive areas, like my nose. This level of frequency is all I need to keep my skin smooth without irritating it or triggering more oil secretion.

Thank you again for stopping by my blog!

If you have dark spots or scars on your face from a breakout or suffered from any unwanted darkening of the skin. Try ZENMED Scar Treatment Kit, after using 8 to 10 times acne scars appear lighter and less visible. Another quality skin care product from Zenmed. Try it once and see the difference…

Great tips. I do breathing exercises regularly. That has helped me a lot.

Hello Aparna,

Thank you very much for leaving a comment and adding to the tips!

I do find deep breathing very relaxing. My face can get a bit flushed when I am feeling anxious, and deep breathing really helps.

great tips =)
i think they are so simple, and yet we overlook them. I tend to want to buy products all the time instead of just focusing on my eatign habits, exercise etc. which are very much neglected haha.

Hi Lilsweetkaz,

Thank you very much! :)

Yes, the reason for writing this post is to remind people (and myself) of the fact that healthy living habits result in healthy skin. Let's keep this in mind!

Thank you for your comment again! :)
