Skincare Travel Kit)

I always like skincare travel kits. They provide a great chance to sample several products at the same time without breaking the bank.

Borghese Skincare Travel Kit ($24.99 USD) is part of the Kirkland Signature range available in Costco stores. It includes:

75ml Pure Moisturizing Cleanser
85g Age-Defying Skin Renewal Mask (limited edition, only available within the kit)
50ml Age-Defying Protective Moisture Lotion SPF 15
15ml Age-Defying Wrinkle Defense Serum
2ml Age-Defying Restorative Night Cream
1ml Age-Defying Protective Eye Cream
See-through toiletry pouch

My favorite is the Wrinkle Defense Serum (called Skin Perfecting Serum in Asia), which includes grape seed extract (an antioxidant). It has a pleasantly smooth and light texture. Also, I find that this silicone-based serum works as a primer for me. (It slightly reminds me of Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer.) Applied right before the foundation, it makes the foundation go on more evenly.

I also enjoy using the Skin Renewal Mask. It has a luxurious butter-like texture and leaves the skin smooth and hydrated.

The Protective Moisture Lotion SPF 15 has a nice creamy texture and will suit people with dry skin. However, it lacks ingredients to offer proper anti-UVA protection, which makes it less than ideal for daytime use on its own. It needs to be paired with a moisturizer/sunscreen lotion with anti-UVA ingredients. (See “Sunscreen Basics” for a list of anti-UVA ingredients.)

(It contains oxybenzone, which only protects some but not all UVA rays. See oxybenzone on Paula Begoun’s Ingredient Dictionary.)

Overall, it is a good starter kit for sampling all of the skincare items from the Kirkland Signature by Borghese range, plus the face mask. Maybe you will find a new staple in it.

Note: The travel kit is only available in Costco stores in the US. Full-size products (apart from the limited-edition Skin Renewal Mask) are available globally.

I have used the Kirkland by Borghese range and Love it . The only product I wish they would include is A Toner.
I love the feel and the frangrance and texture that it makes my skin feel.
Thanks for doing a writeup on it.
Regards G.

Hi Geoff,

Indeed, the range lacks a toner, and it would certainly be good to see one.

Overall I do like this range, and I enjoy using the cleanser, the serum, and the mask in particular. The texture of these products makes them especially enjoyable to use.

Thank you very much for visiting my blog and leaving your comment. Hope to hear from you again! :)

Hi there,

Yes, they are from the same brand. But these products are made by Borghese just for Costco and the cheaper prices are one of the appeals. (Generally, the prices of beauty products have little to do with the ingredients or the formulation. It has more to do with what types of consumers a company wants to appeal to.)

Thank you for your question!

Hi there,

Thank you very much for your question.

I personally don’t believe in the marketing term “anti-aging” and what it entails. The only products that I consider to be “age-delaying” are sunscreen products with UVA and UVB protective ingredients.

Therefore, I review all moisturizers simply as moisturizers regardless of what they are claimed to be. Whether we are 18 or 80, the things we need to do in order to take care of our skin are the same, and, contrary to marketing hype, we don’t need to “switch to” anti-aging products when we are at a certain age. All we need to do is to find a moisturizer that suits our skin types.

On a related note, at the moment, retinol and niacinamide are some of the very few ingredients that can work at the cellular level. These are the ingredients you can look for if you want to find potentially well-formulated moisturizers. (If you are interested, I have reviewed two Olay moisturizers that I am currently using. You can find the links to the posts on the sidebar, in the “My Skincare Essentials” list.)

(Also, you might be interested in my Anti-Aging Series.)

Hope it helps, and thank you for stopping by my blog.
