(Dior 5-Color Eyeshadow Palette in #250 Seascape)

.

Dior’s 5-Color Eyeshadow Palettes, along with the rest of Dior’s makeup line, have been through numerous packaging changes. But I have noticed that this particular color combination has been existing for at least 5 or 6 years.

I got #250 Seascape in 2006 with my Boots points, and I think this is a really beautiful and colorful eyeshadow palette. With blue and purple being on-trend this season (have a look at my spring 2008 makeup trend report), I thought I’d give this palette a mention.

The palette features:

Top left: a soft grey with a very slight ashy-blue undertone and soft purple iridescence
Top right: medium aqua blue
Bottom left: warm medium purple
Bottom right: pale mint green
Center: white with silvery sparkles

The shades are well pigmented and very smooth to apply and blend. They go on quite matte but have a satiny and luminous finish. The central white shade, though, feels a little gritty, probably because of the sparkles. On the other hand, the blue is one of my favorite blue eyeshadow shades.

With both the blue and the purple being quite vibrant, the palette can create a variety of looks, depending on where to place these two colors on the eyes. When I simply want a simple and fresh look, a wash of the mint shade can really brighten my eyes. It can also be used as a base to bring out the lively blue and purple.

Dior’s eyeshadows are known for the great texture and many palettes feature wearable but unique color combinations. Also, their seasonal releases are often good indications of what colors are currently trendy. But I have noticed that the finish of some of the latest palettes (with the powder in quilted patterns) is getting more and more shimmery. While the shimmery finish still looks smooth and flattering, I do hope their future releases will maintain a balance between satiny matte and shimmery finishes.

Hi!

I definately prefer palettes that have at least one matte/semi-matte shade to keep things balanced as having glitter / shimmer all over makes the eye pop too much (for my eye shape anyway).

Good old Boots Points! I traded up the ones I saved over Christmas for 2 Chanel Quads since they are quite pricey to buy normally, and I thought they would be quite a worthwhile investment rather than going for LE items just for the sake of it.

I have £50 left so am tempted to get the Chanel Vanites Quad too (purples)…ooh I love my Boots Card!

Looking at this palette, it really reminds me of Blue Croisette, also from Dior (I think it was Spring 2007?). The only difference is that it doesn’t have the warm medium purple and the colours are rearranged differently. Still, they work for spring’s trends.

By the way, I don’t believe I ever sent you a picture of a CK bronzer did I?

Hi Row,

Definitely…I like palettes with a mixture of finishes too!

Great to know that you are getting some nice Chanel palettes from your Boots points. I don’t have anything I want to spend my points on right now, so I will keep saving up!

I remember the Chanel Vanites palette. It is very pretty. But I think I slightly prefer Stage Lights, another purple palette, which I have. I think I might talk about it later on…:)

Thank you for your comment again! :)

Hello Ebontien,

Yes, I think Blue Croisette is from spring 2007.

You are absolutely right. That palette is still very on-trend for spring 2008.

If you’d like to send the photo of the CK bronzer to me, that would be great. But do please take your time! :)

Hello Michelle,

Thank you very much!

The combination of the colors does look pretty to me. I admit this is half of the reason why I got it… But I do like to play with blue and purple eyeshadow shades as well…

Thank you very much for leaving your comment on my blog! :)

Hi PJ,

I agree with you that Dior’s recent eyeshadow palettes have more and more shimmery shades.

I am hoping Dior’s Spring 2008 will come out eyeshadow palettes well-balanced between matte and shimmery shades. But….. I looked at Temptalia’s swatch the other day. The “Dior in Bloom” palettes still look quite shimmery to me.
I admit there shades are still beautiful!!!

Hi BA,

Indeed they are getting more and more shimmery…

I have tested most of the Dior spring 2008 collection in the shops here. The Dior in Bloom palette is indeed shimmery. But it is a nice soft shimmer. Still quite pretty…

The two 5-color eyeshadow palettes are very shimmery, and I don’t think there is any non-shimmery shade in either of the two palettes. But again, the shades are not too bad at all.
