Ever since I saw Clé de Peau‘s spring 2008 lineup on Japanese beauty magazines, I had been looking forward to seeing if the blue-purple eye palette would be featured for the main ad campaign and what the look would be like.

I was not disappointed when I saw this, to say the very least.

There is a sense of softness and serenity, and the aqua blue eyeshadow doesn’t look out of place at all. The whole image has a water-painting quality to it.

I also feel that the blue worn on a large section of the lids conveys a quiet touch of confidence, assertiveness, and maturity that I find very appealing. It shows that a warm blue like this is not just a youthful and funky color. It can also look sensual and feminine.

Even though Clé de Peau has quite a low-key brand image, its recent collections have been very trend-sensitive. An edgy monochrome eye palette was featured in the fall 2007 collection. For this spring, Eye Color Quad in 117 combines the two hottest shades at the moment, blue and purple.

As I mentioned in the Spring 2008 Makeup Trend Report, while western brands are doing a lot of cold blues this season, Japanese brands are coming up with warmer blues. Clé de Peau’s spring 2008 lineup is just one example.

If I may, I am going to appreciate this beautiful image a little more…

Hey PJ,

I am planning to buy the Lunasol promotion set which include eyeshadow and also lipstick.
I am choosing between Skin Modeling Eyeshadow 01 Beige Beige or 04 Beige Aqua. Which one do you think it’s better?

Also, is there any suggested lipstick colour from Lunasol which you think is good?

Thanks.

Hi Kng Suan,

The main difference between a warm blue and a cool blue is the amount of greenness that they have. Warmer blues have more greenness whereas cooler blues have less.

You can have a look at the color spectrum
here. Notice that it shows how all the hues in the spectrum are made out of red, green, and blue. You can see that the warmer blues are the ones that have more green in them.

If you would have a look at my post here,
you can see that the blue shades from Chanel and Givenchy are cooler, while the blues in Clé de Peau and Lunasol are warmer.

The same can be said of almost all the other colors. For example, a warm red looks more orange-y while a cool red looks more blue-y.

(Also note that coolness and warmness are not related to darkness/lightness. Here, you can see that the same warm/cool blues can be darker and lighter.)

Hope it helps! :)

Thank you for posting your question! :)

Hi CC,

It is hard to say which is better. I believe 01 Beige Beige is the best-selling one out of the four in Japan, but I like 04 Beige Aqua the best. (This is purely based on the look of it, since I haven’t had a chance to see the collection in person.) The blue and green seem very soft and wearable and are very appealing to me.

It also depends on what you already have and whether you would like to try some shades you don’t wear very often. If you don’t normally wear blues and greens but want to give them a try, 04 might be a very good choice. Or, if you don’t usually go for very neutral shades but still want to have a neutral palette to play with, then 01 should be a good option.

As for lipsticks, I bought a Lunasol lipstick many years ago and the shade is no longer available. Recently, a friend of mine helped me purchase the shade in 30SP (from the fall 2007 lineup). She is taking care of it for me right now and will send it later.

I think a good idea would be to decide on the eye palette first and then look into the lipsticks. (On the whole, I tend to prefer slightly cooler pinks…but you might be a totally different case…)

I hope it helps a little bit…do let me know if you’d like to ask anything.

Also, let me know if you do purchase the set and whether you like the items!

Thank you for posting your questions! :)

Hey, guys… Just wanted to say that the three primary colors are YELLOW, blue and red. Every other colors are made out of the combination of this three. Warmer colors have different amounts of yellows and reds, and cooler colors have different amouts of blue in them. Warmer blues have a little bit of yellow in them, so they look a little more greenish.
Great site, PJ! Thanks for all the hard work.
