RMK Gloss Lips N Fall Winter 2010 1(image/info from www.cosme.net)

.

One of RMK‘s most popular items is Gloss Lips. As far as I know, it hasn’t been revamped for at least ten years, which is very unusual for a Japanese beauty line. (It was not replaced after RMK’s major revamp last year.)

Without counting the EX (limited-edition) shades, 39 shades have been available. (#39 is from the fall 2009 collection.) Currently 20 shades are available. (The number gaps indicate shades that were released and then phased out over the years.)

On December 3rd, a new version, Gloss Lips N, will be released in Japan. It will be available in 20 shades and in a variety of finishes. I am assuming that these 20 shades will replace the existing ones. If you have a shade which you can’t live without, it is time to stock up!

Also, on the same day, RMK will release 4 new shades of Ingenious Powder Eyes.

RMK Fall 2010 Makeup Trend 1(image from www.rmkrmk.com)

a

Color-wise, the fall 2010 makeup trends seem to be a natural progression from the last few seasons. Beiges and browns dominated spring 2010, and they are still a key trend in fall 2010, (Gone are the grays, which were prominent in fall 2009, as a major color trend.) Meanwhile, purples shone last fall and they have taken on a few varied hues this season.

a

Beiges & Browns

RMK puts browns firmly on center stage with the Autumn Brown collection. The limited-edition Brown Eyes palettes feature various brown tones. (The palettes are called Deep Brown, Dark Brown, Red Brown, Yellow Brown and Beige Brown.) Guerlain‘s new Écrin 6 Couleurs palettes are also based on a variety of neutral tones, while SUQQU‘s revamped makeup line lays the groundwork with six Blend Color Eyeshadow palettes, all with neutral hues.

Pinks, Mauves, Purples & Plums

Biteki (September 2010) calls them the berry tones, and those who are not enticed by the skin-tonal colors and who are interested in more vibrant shades might want to look into these mouth-watering colors.

Dior‘s 5 Color Design palette in Pink Design includes a dusty pink and a sophisticated muted purple. Estée Lauder‘s Pure Color 5 Color Eyeshadow Palette in Surreal Violet offers some delicious berry shades.  Addiction‘s fall 2010 makeup collection includes berry-toned items for eyes as well as lips. (Refer to the link for the new items for lips.)

Mix & Match

What is interesting is that many brands feature both color trends in their fall 2010 makeup collections (either in one single item or in various items in the collection). Here are some of the highlights:

RMK will release its fall 2010 makeup collection in Japan on August 20th. The collection includes:

– Brown Eyes (above, 6 variations, limited editions)

– Ingenious Waterproof Pencil Eyeliner (4 shades)

– Eyebrow Mascara N (5 shades)

– Irresistible Lips B (4 new shades)

– Ingenious Powder Cheeks (3 new shades, limited editions)

– Nail Color EX (5 new shades)

I also noticed that all the seasonal eyeshadow palettes and blushers that RMK has brought out so far this year are limited editions, which is slightly unusual for a Japanese beauty brand.

(SUQQU Noble Nuance Face Color)
(image from www.suqqu.com)

Dior: I came across Dior’s summer 2010 collection in Harrods. (It doesn’t seem to be available in other department stores or Dior counters in Boots at the moment.) I am slightly underwhelmed by Addicted to Dior mainly because it is smaller than what I imagined. But I think I still like it enough to want to use my Boots points for it.

Paul & Joe: As I mentioned earlier, Select Eye Colors are now available in the UK. None of the shades has grabbed me. At the moment, I am looking forward to the new Lip Gloss G from the summer 2010 collection.

RMK: Spring Modern Eyes in 04 Rosy Purple from the spring 2010 collection has been sold out.

SUQQU: I finally had a chance to see SUQQU’s spring 2010 collection in person. Noble Nuance Face Color has a subtle luminous glow that should be appealing for many people. Among other items in the collection, I like Noble Nuance Eyeshadow in EX-01, Noble Nuance Cheeks in EX-01, and Noble Nuance Lipstick in EX-02.

In my post on the makeup trend of spring 2010, I mentioned that quite a few orange-toned shades seemed to be appearing among Japanese cosmetics. Today, I am looking at a good example of this trend, Spring Modern Eyes in 03 Orangy Brown from RMK’s spring 2010 collection.

Top left: well-pigmented mildly metallic warm brown with a burgundy undertone
Bottom: moderately-pigmented shimmery light warm beige
Middle: lightly-pigmented mildly shimmery off-white
Right: sheer subtly shimmery soft peachy orange

The orange looks vibrant in the pan, but it is sheer and subtle when applied.

All the colors go on very smoothly, especially the light beige and the dark brown. The staying power of all the colors is good.

According to the application instruction enclosed with the palette, firstly, the light beige is applied on the eyelids. Then, the dark brown is used to line the eyes and the off-white is applied on the brow bones. Finally, the light orange is layered on top of the other three shades.

Based on this application, the effect is soft and warm. Even though the light beige and the orange are on the sheer side, they are not so sheer that they would just show up as shimmer.

I personally really like the light beige, which is a very good daytime color. It has the right (softly warm) tone for my slightly warm complexion and it adds subtle depth to the eyes. The multi-color shimmer also enhances the dimension of the eyes.

The orange imparts a touch of bounciness to the eye areas. It can be layered for slightly more intensity, but it doesn’t look gaudy or overly vibrant. It can also be used in the inner corners of the eyes or as a lower-eye liner for a very different look. I have not tried any shade similar to it before and I do find it to be quite wearable.

This palette is an interesting reinterpretation of warm neutrals. If the orange in this palette were a medium-to-dark beige, the palette would be relatively more ordinary. The orange certainly adds a bit of novelty and an element of surprise and discovery to the palette. It makes this palette worthy of a look even if you already have a few neutral palettes.
