While many beauty brands are still bringing out their versions of BB creams, there are now CC creams and even DD creams. “CC” usually stands for “Color Correction/Corrector” or “Color Control”, while “DD” usually stands for “Daily Defense”. Chanel and Clinique are two major beauty brands that carry CC creams (Complete Correction SPF 30/ PA+++ and Moisture Surge CC Cream Hydrating Colour Corrector SPF30, respectively), and, today, I am focusing on Olay‘s Regenerist CC Complexion Corrector SPF 15 UVA/ UVB in Lightest Skin Tone, which was launched in the UK last month.

Since I reviewed items from Nude Skincare in 2008 and 2009, the lineup of this UK-based skincare brand has changed considerably. As the brand keeps the number of products relatively small, quite a few products from the original lineup have been replaced or discontinued. It seems that whitening ranges continue to be big businesses in Asia, and the springtime is when most of the whitening ranges from both Asian and western beauty brands (which develop whitening ranges exclusively for the Asian market) bring out new products. From daily skincare items to treatment products and from ultra-high SPF sunscreens to full base-makeup routines (from primer to loose powder), whitening ranges have been getting more and more extensive.

Shiseido’s Anessa is one of the most popular suncare ranges in Japan. The range features sunscreens (including one designed for babies), foundations, and a BB cream, all of which offer high levels of protection against UVA and UVB rays. The range also includes cleansers formulated to remove high-factor sun protection.
Currently, in Japanese cosmetics, the labels indicating the strengths of UVA protection are PA+, PA++, and PA+++. From January 2013, as a result of the advancement of UVA protection technology in Japan, the Japan Cosmetic Industry Association will introduce PA++++, an even higher level of UVA protection.
Anessa’s spring/summer 2013 suncare collection, which will be released in Japan on February 21st, features items with the PA++++ UVA-protection level. The collection includes (from left to right in the photo above):
