For summer 2012, SUQQU will release Blend Color Eyeshadow in 12 Konruri in Japan on May 18th. Those of you who are SUQQU fans will probably instantly see its resemblance to Blend Color Eyeshadow in 01 Kakitsubata, which was released in Japan in fall 2010. According to SUQQU.com, 01 Kakitsubata will be available in Japan until May 17th. 12 Konruri is presumably the replacement.

The golden brown in 01 Kakitsubata is one of my favorite neutral eyeshadow shades. From the images I have seen on SUQQU.com, Cosme.net, and the June 2012 issue of Biteki, the new beige brown seems lighter and cooler, and I am not entirely certain that I will like it as much. Based on the finishes of the newer Blend Color Eyeshadow palettes (from 07 onwards), it will probably be more shimmery, which I don’t mind as much.

Please note that Blend Color Eyeshadows in 02, 03, and 05 are no longer featured on SUQQU’s Japanese website.

How disappointing that the new release should be so enormously similar to 01 Kakitsubata. I have that palette and it is an almost perfect combination of colours and textures. I have to say I don’t think the additional shade in the split pan is necessary and a cooler shade of brown won’t suit me :(, plus it slightly throws off the balance of the other colours. I wonder why they haven’t gone with something a bit different for this collection. I will be interested to see what the rest of the collection includes, and how they complement this palette – there might be some pieces worth picking up to go with 01 Kakitsubata at least. Luckily I’m in Japan on the 18th so I will be straight down to the Suqqu counter on Friday morning :)! It will at least be interesting to see how this swatches in comparison to the 2010 release.

Hi Rosy,

I think we have similar views on the two palettes. 01 Kakitsubata is a beautifully constructed palette and I really like the combination of the golden brown (cooler neutrals tend not to suit me as much) and the dark blue. The pale peach and the golden brown work very well together as well.

I think 12 Konruri is the only item from SUQQU for summer 2012. (As you might know, SUQQU doesn’t always release a summer collection every year.) If you have a chance to swatch the palette, do let me know what you think. :)

Thank you very much for posting your comment, and happy birthday on the 18th! ;)

Hi PJ, as predicted my first stop this morning was the Suqqu counter to check out 12 Konruri. I’ve posted some pictures on my blog comparing it to 01 Kakitsubata if you’re interested. In short, it’s lovely (surprise surprise!) but not as perfect as it’s predecessor. Also, both blues are sparkly, which is a slight disappointment – there’s only one matte in the palette.

Hi Rosy,

First of all, happy birthday to you! :) (I hope you enjoyed your visit to the SUQQU counter!)

Thank you so much for posting the swatches and sharing your thoughts! The side-by-side comparison is extremely helpful. Looking at the swatches, I also think 01 Kakitsubata is more suitable for me but I think 12 Konruri would certainly appeal to those who prefer cooler neutrals. (Personally, I am pleased that it doesn’t look too ashy or grayish.)

I do like the color and the finish of the lighter blue in the split pan but it would probably only work as a subtle eyelining shade for me.

Thank you very much for posting your comment again. Have a great day and a lovely weekend in Japan! :)

I love the look of this palette. It seems to be a nice balance of colour a neutrals. The only thing is, since I already have similar colours, I’m always reluctant to purchase ones that are alike (purple seems to be an exception). However, I’ve heard so much good about Suqqu’s eye shadow quality, that I might just check this out when it’s released (if I can make it to Selfridge’s sometime soon). Do you know if this will be joining the permanent items?

I’ve also been considering Ginbudou (06) for a while now and since it seems that they are moving to these 5-shadow palettes (speculation on my part, but it seems that way), maybe I should be quick about it. Lot’s of pretty items this year, I have to be strict about prioritizing!

Hi Leila,

As far as I know, 12 Konruri is a permanent item. (But you probably already know that permanent items from Japanese beauty brands are often not that permanent…:(…) I do think the quality of SUQQU’s eyeshadows is very good and that it is definitely worth your time to have a look at them at the SUQQU counter.

I think you are certainly right in thinking that the four-color Blend Color Eyeshadow palettes are on their way out. (Three of the six released in fall 2010 (not including o1 Kakitsubata) are not sold in Japan anymore.) I have a feeling that the ones released for fall 2012 will probably replace 04 Keshizumi and 06 Ginbudou. If you like 06 Ginbudou, I suppose it might be a good idea to make a decision in the next few months. :)

Thank you very much for stopping by again! :)

I haven’t tried anything from Suqqu yet but I am so tempted. Like all your recs I always find an Asian beauty product love thru you.

Hi Monica,

I think the quality of SUQQU’s makeup items is generally very good (especially eyeshadows, blushers, and lipsticks). I would certainly recommend a visit to a SUQQU counter to look at the products in person if you are ever near one. Let me know what you think if you have a chance to try the products!

Thank you very much for your comment! :)
