Last year, I reviewed Sweets SweetsSilky Chiffon Cheeks in 01 Cranberry Chiffon in my Stash Debut series, and, today, I will be sharing my thoughts on the brand’s Premium Chocolat Cheeks in 02 Strawberry Chocolat Cake.

Sweets Sweets Premium Chocolat Cheeks in 02 Strawberry Chocolat Cake (スウィーツ スウィーツ プレミアムショコラチークス 02 ストロベリーショコラケーキ/ Sweets Sweets 巧克力莊園甜頰餅 02 草莓蛋糕, ¥1200) was released in Japan in spring 2016 (when the Premium Chocolat Cheeks range was launched with four variations). The three shades in this variation are:

  • light milky pink, lightly-to-moderately pigmented, softly glowy with soft shimmer
  • medium-depth mauve rose pink, lightly-to-moderately pigmented, glowy with soft shimmer
  • porcelain white, lightly-to-moderately pigmented, glowy with soft shimmer

All the three shades have multi-hued light-reflective particles. (The various hues look less obvious under natural light.) They are all easy to apply and blend. The light milky pink and the mauve rose pink have a good staying power, and the porcelain white has a decently good staying power.

According to the application instructions (printed on the back of the case of the product and featured on the brand’s official Japanese website), the main blusher shade (on the left) and the supplementary blusher shade (on the top right) are mixed together before application, and then the blending shade (on the bottom right) is applied all around the edge of the blusher placement.

The light milky pink looks natural on me. Its finish is nicely dimensional, and it is not too glowy or shimmery. The shade can be layered for more color intensity.

The medium-depth mauve rose pink is also a natural blusher shade for me. It goes on warmer than it looks in the pan. (When worn, it looks somewhat rosy but not particularly mauve-y.) Its glowy finish with soft shimmer doesn’t look flat or frosty on me.

When mixed, the two shades show up as a light-to-medium pink with a soft rose tone. The finish is fairly glowy but it doesn’t emphasize the appearance of pores too much.

The porcelain white is an effective highlighting shade. It is slightly more pigmented, slightly more opaque and slightly more glowy than many of the other highlighting shades I have come across from Japanese beauty brands. Thorough blending is vital for a seamless look.

(If it is used heavy-handedly and not blended thoroughly, it can look very pearly and can emphasize the appearance of pores. Also, if it is used heavy-handedly around the edge of the blusher placement, its relatively opaque pigment can cover the blusher shades and alter the original blusher placement.)

The hair of the round brush that comes with the product is shorter, denser and bouncier than that of the round brush that comes with Silky Chiffon Cheeks. It is particularly useful for placing and layering the product as well as picking up an individual color from the palette.

Overall, I do like this blusher palette. The two blusher shades look natural on me, and the shimmer in them prevents their finishes from looking too flat or too frosty. The porcelain white also works well for me as long as I am light-handed with it and blend it carefully.
