Kanebo Coffret d'Or Beauty Aura Eyes 04 Bordeaux Holiday 2016 Makeup 1

Last year, I reviewed Kanebo Coffret d’Or‘s Beauty Aura Eyes in 01 Yellow Brown and 03 Khaki. Earlier this year, I decided to add 04 Bordeaux to my collection, and today I will be focusing on this palette.

Kanebo Coffret d’Or Beauty Aura Eyes in 04 Bordeaux (カネボウ コフレドール ビューティオーラアイズ 04 ボルドー/ 佳麗寶 金炫光燦 光透色眼影盒 04 葡萄酒紅, ¥3500) was released in Japan for the holiday 2016 season. (It is a regular variation and it is still available.) The four shades in this palette are:

  • off-white pink, lightly pigmented, with high-toned pearly shimmer
  • medium-to-cool dusky rose pink, moderately-to-intensely pigmented, with pearly shimmer
  • dark plum, moderately-to-intensely pigmented, with a pearly glow
  • pale yellow, very gently pigmented, softly sparkly

All the four shades in this palette have multi-hued light-reflective particles. They are all very easy to apply and blend, and they all have a very good staying power.

The off-white pink works well for me as a base shade. It can look quite shimmery, so I try to be fairly light-handed with it.

The medium-to-cool dusky rose pink works very well for me as a shadowing shade. Even though it is fairly intensely pigmented, it is very easy to work with. It has an almost-creamy consistency, and it is exceptionally easy to blend and to create a gradation. It creates a soft-to-moderate shadow, which goes well with the elegant and romantic feel of the shade. It doesn’t look too red-toned on me (even when I use it along the lower lash lines), and it doesn’t turn grayish over time. I would like the cool tone of this shade to be a little more pronounced, but I am being a little picky here.

As an eyelining shade, the dark plum is sufficiently dark but not very intensely pigmented. Layering is needed to achieve more color saturation, but, on the whole, it works competently as an eyelining shade.

The pale yellow is designed to be used as a sparkle top coat on the middle parts of the upper eyelids. It certainly adds a veil of sparkles and additional dimension to the eyes, but I don’t think the yellow pigment it contains (despite the small amount) goes optimally well with the dusky rose pink. For me, a sparkly pale pink or a sparkly pale lilac would work better with the other shades in this palette.

Overall I am very happy with this palette. I particularly enjoy wearing the dusky rose pink, which is a nice alternative to all the purples that I love. The off-white pink, the dusky rose pink and the dark plum already create a fairly dimensional look, so I sometimes skip the pale yellow.
