SUQQU Reset Cleansing Oil Reset Cleansing Cream 1

As I mentioned, SUQQU went through a major revamp in Japan last year and many products were discontinued and replaced. Earlier I reviewed Blend Color Eyeshadow in 01 Kakitsubata and Creamy Glow Lipsticks in 07 Asasuou, 09 Hanarenga, and 18 Karakurenai, and today I am focusing on two of the new skincare items.

Reset Cleansing Oil and Reset Cleansing Cream were released in Japan last September (as were the new makeup items from SUQQU). Along with Eye Makeup Remover R, they are the new makeup removing products from the brand. (Extra Off Cleansing Gel, Extra Off Cleansing Milk, Extra Off Cleansing Cream, and Eye Makeup Remover are no longer available in Japan.)

Reset Cleansing Oil

SUQQU was one of the few major Japanese beauty brands that didn’t carry a cleansing oil. It finally does now. The oils it uses are mineral oil, olive oil, and macadamia nut oil, and it has the signature eastern orchid scent that most of SUQQU’s skincare items have. I find the scent very pleasant.

Compared with RMK’s Cleansing Oil N, Reset Cleansing Oil feels thicker and more emollient but it is still malleable. It doesn’t emulsify as well as RMK’s Cleansing Oil N but it emulsifies reasonably better than DHC Deep Cleansing Oil, Nude Skincare Cleansing Facial Oil and some of the cleansing oils from Shu Uemura that I have tried. It leaves skin feeling nourished but not greasy. It doesn’t give me breakouts.

(Compared with Muji Cleansing Oil, I would say that Muji Cleansing Oil emulsifies marginally better.)

This product should be suitable for most skin types, although it will probably appeal to those with drier skin a little more.

Reset Cleansing Cream

Containing emollients such as mineral oil, dipropylene glycol, isononyl isononanoate, tribehenin, glyceryl stearate, stearic acid, and olive oil, it is a typical cream-based cleanser that uses emollients to dissolve makeup and impurities. It is reasonably malleable and doesn’t drag the skin, and it has the same eastern orchid scent.

It can be wiped off or rinsed off. After it is rinsed off, it leaves some oily residue on the skin, which won’t appeal to those with combination or oily skin. Whereas Reset Cleansing Oil should be generally suitable for most skin types, I think Reset Cleansing Cream is definitely for those with dry or very dry skin.

(Note that SUQQU, like many other Japanese beauty brands, suggests a W-cleansing routine for the evening, which means the use of a makeup remover followed by the use of a face wash. (The current face wash options from SUQQU are Refining Soap and Refining Foam.) Even though I do use a face wash after using a cleanser, I still prefer using cleansers that can be rinsed off more or less completely with as little residue as possible.)

Both products are free from parabens and they don’t contain fragrant plant oils that can be potential irritants for the skin.

Between the two products, I think Reset Cleansing Oil should have a broader appeal. But if you prefer a nourishing wipe-off cleanser, then Reset Cleansing Cream might be worth considering.
